Sister Victoria Clarke Becomes Acting Chair of Brotherhood of Cross and Star

Sister Victoria Clarke has been appointed Acting Chair of the Brotherhood of Cross and Star (BCS), marking a historic milestone for the religious organization. The appointment follows directives from the Sole Spiritual Head, Olumba Olumba Obu, popularly known as O O Obu.

This is the first time in the BCS’s history that the leadership position has been entrusted to someone outside the Olumba Olumba Obu family. Clarke pledged to usher in key reforms and introduce new funding sources to strengthen evangelism and organizational growth.

Addressing members during a reception held in her honor in Uyo, which coincided with the 2025 International Women Fellowship Day, Clarke said:

“This appointment is a historic moment that will inspire me to take our faith to greater heights.”

Clarke, who also serves as President of the International Women Fellowship (IWF), described the transition as a victory for all devotees, especially women. She announced plans to diversify funding streams beyond traditional tithes, incorporating business, technology, and other sources to support pilgrimages, missionary work, and organizational growth.

She emphasized that Olumba Olumba Obu’s decision demonstrates that God’s Kingdom does not discriminate based on gender:

“In the Kingdom of God, there is neither male nor female. This appointment also breaks the long-standing tradition of leadership remaining within the Olumba family.”

Clarke acknowledged the significant work ahead, including prioritizing evangelism, establishing income-generating ventures, and financial diversification. She urged all members to support her administration, promising that, with divine guidance, these initiatives would be successfully implemented.

Born in 1950 in the United Kingdom, Clarke studied extensively before dedicating her life to the BCS mission. She has previously traveled across West Africa and the Caribbean, overseeing the construction of worship cathedrals and spreading the faith.

During the reception, Deaconess Maria Onyeacholem commended BCS members for their unity and encouraged continued contributions to ensure the success of Clarke’s administration.

The Officiating Priest, Witness Ime Akpakpan, reminded members of their responsibility to use their talents and resources to advance God’s Kingdom, drawing references from Luke 12:48, Matthew 19:21, and Acts 4:34-35. He emphasized accountability and assured that those who invest their gifts wisely would be rewarded by God.

Eminent attendees included Bishops Emmanuel Shegum, Alex Igwe, Iwat Etuk, Anthony Udeh, Bassey Ephraim, and Sape, along with national and state leaders, council members, and other dignitaries.

Clarke’s appointment represents a landmark moment in BCS history, signaling the organization’s evolution and commitment to inclusive leadership.
