Lagos Government Launches Second Phase of Compensation Registration for Oworonshoki Regeneration

The Lagos State Government has commenced a second round of enumeration for property owners in Oworonshoki, a key step in compensating residents affected by the ongoing urban regeneration project.

The exercise, organized by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), took place at the Oloworo Palace in Kosofe Local Government Area. It aims to register residents with valid property documents who were not included in the first phase. The event was attended by community leaders, officials from the Community Development Association (CDA) and Committee (CDC), security agencies, and journalists.

Mr. Oladimeji Animashaun, the General Manager of LASURA, who led the initiative, praised the significant turnout from the community. He attributed the positive response to the government’s demonstrated sincerity, noting that 79 residents from the initial enumeration phase have already received their compensation.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu must be lauded and appreciated for the fulfilment of his promise to compensate residents,” Animashaun stated, reinforcing the government’s commitment to its pledge.

The state government had previously presented certified cheques to qualified residents on October 23 and 24 at a ceremony also held at the Oloworo palace.

A Collaborative Verification Process

To ensure transparency, residents were advised to submit their completed enumeration forms along with relevant documents, including their LASSRA ID card, passport photographs, land receipt or deed of conveyance, and bank details. A verification committee comprising LASURA officials, the Oloworo of Oworonshoki kingdom, and representatives from the CDAs, CDCs, and affected residents will review all submissions.

Animashaun assured that the distribution of cheques to deserving residents would follow promptly after the completion of the enumeration and verification process.

The event was also attended by the member representing Kosofe State Constituency I, Ganiyu Sanni, who joined other dignitaries in commending the efforts of government officials in seeing the compensation process through. Some residents present at the enumeration expressed their gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu and the project coordinators for their faithfulness and patience in executing the exercise.
