The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated an investigation into allegations of age falsification against the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi. This development is unfolding amidst a deepening political crisis in the state, where Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike and Governor Similayi Fubara are embroiled in a power struggle over control of the oil-rich region.
On Thursday, the Assembly’s plenary session addressed the age falsification allegations after documents were presented to the Speaker by the House Leader, Hon. Major Jack. Deputy Speaker Hon. Dumle Maol highlighted the seriousness of the allegations, stating that the documents indicated Justice Amadi had falsified his age while in service. Maol urged the House to take legislative notice of the matter.
Following a debate, the Assembly resolved to request the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the allegations and submit their findings to the House. Speaker Martin Amaewhule emphasized that the documents merely suggested age falsification, necessitating a formal investigation. The resolution was passed after a vote, solidifying the Assembly’s decision to involve the DSS in the matter.
