New Delhi, Nov 6, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday formally dedicated three pioneering innovations to the nation during the ongoing Emerging Science, Technology & Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025, underscoring India’s growing capabilities in high-end scientific research and technology. The innovations, spanning quantum computing and healthcare, reflect India’s ambitions to establish itself as a global hub for advanced technologies while simultaneously addressing pressing healthcare challenges.
The three technologies unveiled at ESTIC 2025 comprise two breakthroughs in quantum computing developed by Bengaluru-based startups and an indigenously developed cancer therapy pioneered by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and its spin-off startup, ImmunoACT. Together, these innovations represent a convergence of cutting-edge digital and biomedical research, showcasing India’s commitment to advancing scientific frontiers.
Among the quantum computing innovations is QSIP (Quantum Random Number Generator System in Package), developed by QNu Pvt Labs. QSIP represents a critical step forward in securing India’s cyber and digital infrastructure, particularly as nations worldwide brace for the potential disruptions posed by quantum computing to traditional encryption methods. The system generates quantum-certified random numbers derived from quantum processes, which can be used for encryption and decryption of sensitive data. This capability ensures a level of security that is resistant to attacks from both classical and future quantum computers, making it a foundational tool for critical government and financial infrastructure, telecommunications, and defence systems.
The second quantum innovation dedicated by the Prime Minister is the 25-qubit Quantum Processing Unit (QPU), developed by QpiAI, one of the eight startups selected under India’s National Quantum Mission 2023. Known as QpiAI-Indus, this is India’s first full-stack quantum computer that integrates all technological layers, featuring 25 superconducting qubits. According to QpiAI, the 25-qubit machine is capable of performing complex calculations at unprecedented speeds, enabling simulations and analyses that were previously unfeasible for classical computers. Its potential applications are extensive, including optimization in pharmaceuticals, materials science, logistics, and manufacturing. The startup has positioned QpiAI-Indus as a platform for quantum research and industrial application, allowing Indian scientists and engineers to explore practical solutions to both scientific and commercial problems.
On the healthcare front, Prime Minister Modi dedicated NexCAR19, India’s first indigenous CAR-T cell general therapy for cancer, developed by the IIT Bombay spin-off ImmunoACT. CAR-T (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell) therapy represents one of the most advanced treatments in oncology, involving the genetic modification of a patient’s own immune cells to target and destroy cancerous cells. NexCAR19 is designed to be accessible and affordable, marking a milestone in India’s efforts to provide advanced gene therapies to a larger population without compromising scientific rigor or patient safety.
The therapy has already been administered to over 500 patients across the country, with early results indicating significant improvements in treatment outcomes. It was developed with support from the BioNest initiative under the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), which provided funding, mentorship, and access to research resources. ImmunoACT was incubated at IIT Bombay’s Society of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), which has historically served as a launchpad for technology-driven startups aiming to bring research innovations to practical applications.
In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi highlighted the transformative potential of these innovations, stating, “These three technologies reflect India’s growing capabilities in frontier research and development. QSIP and the 25-qubit QPU strengthen our digital and cyber infrastructure, while NexCAR19 offers hope to patients battling cancer, demonstrating that advanced treatments can be made both affordable and accessible.” The statement emphasised that the government sees these innovations as emblematic of India’s scientific self-reliance and global competitiveness.
Dr Rahul Purwar, professor at IIT Bombay and co-founder of ImmunoACT, elaborated on NexCAR19, noting that the therapy represents a significant step toward democratizing access to high-end cancer treatment. “NexCAR19 has made it possible to bring gene and cell therapy into the mainstream healthcare system without sacrificing the rigor and quality standards that such treatments demand,” he said. He also highlighted the HOPE Initiative, launched by ImmunoACT as an integrated support ecosystem for patients and caregivers navigating advanced treatments, providing educational, psychological, and logistical support alongside clinical care.
