FG’s Youth Empowerment Programmes Reduced Crime in Niger Delta – NDYM

The Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM) has commended the Federal Government for implementing various youth training and empowerment initiatives that have significantly reduced criminal activities across the region.

In a statement issued by its National President, Comrade Major Ekene, the group noted that the programmes have contributed to a sharp decline in militancy, youth restiveness, crude oil theft, and other forms of economic sabotage.

According to NDYM, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown unprecedented commitment to the development of the Niger Delta through its youth-focused policies and projects.

The group expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Regional Development, led by Engr. Abubakar Momoh, for effectively implementing the initiatives that have empowered many young people with valuable skills and entrepreneurial training.

“The Niger Delta Youth Movement deeply appreciates the Ministry of Regional Development for its pragmatic approach to training and empowerment. The programmes have given hope to many youths and provided sustainable alternatives to crime,” the statement read.

NDYM added that several beneficiaries have already ventured into fish farming, palm oil production, piggery, and cooperative businesses, moving towards self-reliance and community development.

The group also pledged its unwavering support for President Tinubu’s administration, describing his development policies as “genuine and people-oriented.”

As preparations begin for the 2025 phase of the empowerment scheme, NDYM urged young people to embrace entrepreneurship and see government intervention programmes as opportunities for growth rather than handouts.

“Proper and methodical empowerment of the youth means a direct reduction in crime, crude oil theft, and economic sabotage,” the statement added.
