Two community leaders have been killed and several residents abducted after armed bandits attacked Doguwar Dorawa, a farming settlement near Guga in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State on Thursday night.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the community around 10 p.m., killing two brothers — Alhaji Bishir and Alhaji Surajo — despite a recent “peace deal” reportedly reached between the bandits and local communities.
A community elder, Mahadi Danbinta Guga, confirmed the incident, describing the killings as “cold-blooded.”
Residents said the assailants rode into the area on motorcycles, parked them inside the nearby bush, and entered the village on foot to avoid attracting attention. They then operated freely for over an hour, looting houses, abducting villagers, and killing the two brothers before fleeing.
Witnesses believe the attackers are loyal to Idi Abasu Aiki and Kwashen Garwa, two notorious bandit leaders operating across Bakori and adjoining areas.
While Doguwar Dorawa was under attack, another group of armed men simultaneously raided Layin ‘Yannehu, where they rustled livestock and terrorised residents.
The recent violence follows a series of similar attacks in Ganjar, Alhazawa, and Gidan Nagari, where more than 40 people have been kidnapped in the past few weeks, forcing many families to flee their homes.
As of the time of this report, neither the Katsina State Government nor the Bakori Local Government Council has issued an official statement regarding the latest killings and abductions.
In October, leaders from Bakori, Malumfashi, and Funtua Local Government Areas had entered a peace accord with bandit groups in an effort to reduce the persistent attacks, killings, and kidnappings in southern Katsina.
However, Thursday’s incident has cast doubt on the effectiveness of that agreement, as residents continue to live in fear of renewed violence.
