Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State has been recognised as the Best Performing Local Government in Agriculture by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its exceptional contributions to food production and rural development.
The award was presented during the 47th National Council on Agriculture and Food Security (NCAFS) in Kaduna, celebrating Soba LGA’s achievements in agricultural transformation and support for both state and national food security objectives.
According to the award citation, Soba distinguished itself through effective farmer support programmes, enhanced extension services, and significant productivity gains, which have boosted local food production and improved livelihoods for rural farmers.
Reacting to the recognition, Soba Council Chairman, Hon. Muhammad Lawal Shehu (Molash), dedicated the award to Governor Uba Sani, crediting the Governor’s visionary agricultural policies and incentives for the council’s successes.
He highlighted the impact of free distribution of fertilizers, pesticides, weedicides, tractors, and other farming inputs by the state government, noting that these initiatives have greatly enhanced productivity and encouraged smallholder farmers to expand cultivation.
Shehu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening agricultural reform, expanding mechanised farming, and promoting sustainable practices to make Soba a model for rural development and food sufficiency in Nigeria.
The chairman thanked the Federal and State Governments for their continued support and pledged that Soba would sustain its drive toward inclusive growth and agricultural excellence, aligning with Governor Uba Sani’s Renewed Hope Agenda for rural prosperity.
