Diri’s Leadership and Knowledge Contribution Lauded; UNILAG Endows Chair in His Honour

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has received widespread commendation from Vice President Kashim Shettima, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and UNILAG Vice Chancellor Prof. Folasade Ogunsola for his transformative leadership and investments in education and governance.

The accolades were given during a Book Presentation/Launch, Public Lecture, and the Institution of a Professorial Chair on Leadership and Good Governance in his honour at the University of Lagos. Diri’s book, “Leadership Chronicles of Governor Douye Diri”, was described as a masterclass in leadership and a reflection of his dedication to inclusive governance, conflict management, and development.

Shettima, represented by Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, highlighted Diri’s compassionate and competent leadership style, noting it as a model for driving progress through dialogue and inclusiveness. Governor Mutfwang described Diri as a leader whose achievements in education, healthcare, security, and infrastructure stand out, emphasizing the importance of regional unity and peace.

Prof. Ogunsola noted that the endowed professorial chair aligns with UNILAG’s mission to foster research, scholarship, and global excellence in education. The event also attracted over ₦1 billion in pledges from government agencies, legislators, corporate organisations, and community groups to support knowledge and development initiatives.

Governor Diri dedicated the recognition to the people of Bayelsa, stressing the importance of accountability, service, and creating lasting impact through leadership.
