Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has been named the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. Isah Dansidi was appointed as Secretary of the factional BoT.
The appointments, announced during the inauguration of the new BoT by factional Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed in Abuja on Friday, replace former BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara and Secretary Ahmed Makarfi.
A communique issued after the inauguration explained that Wabara and Makarfi had publicly taken positions in the ongoing intra-party crisis, which made it necessary for them to step aside to maintain the neutrality, integrity, and moral authority of the BoT.
The communique, signed by Ohuabunwa and Dansidi, stated:
“Accordingly, the Board unanimously approved the election of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who, like Senator Adolphus Wabara, hails from the South, and Hon. Isah Dansidi, who, like Senator Ahmed Makarfi, hails from the North, as the Chairman and Secretary of the newly constituted Board of Trustees respectively.”
The BoT also commended outgoing officers for their service, urged all stakeholders to continue acting with maturity and mutual respect, and reaffirmed that genuine reconciliation and cooperation are key to the party’s unity and progress.
The Board emphasized its commitment to strengthening the internal democratic culture of the party, promoting transparency, inclusiveness, and institutional respect, and ensuring adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, INEC Guidelines, and the PDP Constitution.
“Only through adherence to these principles can the PDP continue to serve as the true custodian of Nigeria’s democratic ideals,” the communique concluded.
