Mao Ohabunwa Elected New PDP Board of Trustees Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Mao Ohabunwa as the new chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT). The election took place on Friday at the official residence of the Federal Capital Territory Minister in Abuja.

At the same event, Isah Dansidi was appointed as the secretary of the board.

Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, during the inauguration, stated that the move is aimed at restoring the party’s core values and rebuilding public trust.

He said:
“We have come together not merely to inaugurate a new board of trustees but to renew our faith in the ideals that gave birth to this great political family — justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the rule of law.”

Abdulrahman also acknowledged that internal challenges and disputes had previously diverted the party from its founding principles. He noted that the previous board under Senator Adolphus Wabara had lost its moral compass, and his suspension by the Abia State PDP was a necessary corrective measure.

“We must be honest with ourselves — the decay we are correcting today did not start yesterday. It began when we abandoned zoning before the 2015 elections, allowed ambition to override equity, and ignored reasoned voices within our ranks. The consequences of those decisions still haunt us,” he added.

He further assured that under the new leadership, the PDP will uphold transparency, fairness, and respect for the rule of law, conduct congresses with integrity, and restore public trust, positioning the party once again as a moral voice in Nigeria’s democracy.

The inauguration was attended by notable party officials, including PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyawu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
