Gospel Legend Yolanda Adams to Make Broadway Debut in Alicia Keys’ Hit Musical Hell’s Kitchen

Gospel powerhouse Yolanda Adams is set to make her highly anticipated Broadway debut in the hit musical Hell’s Kitchen, inspired by the life and music of Alicia Keys. The four-time Grammy winner will step into the Tony-winning role of Miss Liza Jane, originally originated by Kecia Lewis, starting Friday, November 21. Adams will alternate with Lewis before taking over the role full-time on December 16, in a limited engagement running through January 25, 2026.

Adams, 64, shared her excitement about joining Broadway:

Alicia Keys, 44, expressed her enthusiasm for Adams joining the cast:

Kecia Lewis, who earned a Tony, Grammy, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Lucille Lortel Award for her performance, will play her final show on Saturday, December 13.

Hell’s Kitchen tells the story of 17-year-old Ali, navigating her journey to find her voice and place in the world, inspired by Alicia Keys’ own upbringing in New York City. The production features a book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz, direction by five-time Tony nominee Michael Greif, and choreography by five-time nominee Camille A. Brown.

The musical blends Alicia Keys’ biggest hits with new songs written for the stage, offering a vibrant, heartfelt exploration of identity, mentorship, and resilience. She has also been recognized with 16 Stellar Gospel Music Awards, seven NAACP Image Awards, five BET Awards, three Soul Train Music Awards, and the first American Music Award for Contemporary Gospel Artist.

Beyond music, Adams has made her mark as a media personality, hosting The Yolanda Adams Morning Show for a decade — becoming the first female nationally syndicated radio host — authoring Points of Power, and starring in BET’s Kingdom Business.
