Ayodhya, Oct 15, 2025: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday announced that a new hub of the National Security Guard (NSG) is being established in Ayodhya to ensure a “befitting response to any terror attack.”
Speaking at the 41st Raising Day of the elite anti-terror commando force in Manesar, Haryana, Shah said, “A hub will be set up in Ayodhya. NSG commandos will be present round-the-clock throughout the year. A special composite group will always be ready along the periphery to respond swiftly to any terror threat.”
He added that the Narendra Modi government plans to introduce major reforms to strengthen the NSG’s operational capabilities. The hub in Ayodhya will be the sixth regional NSG centre after Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Gandhinagar. A smaller “task force” unit also exists in Jammu. These hubs were first established in 2009, following lessons from the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, to enable rapid regional response.
Officials indicated that the Ayodhya hub is expected to be operational by the end of this year or early 2026, on eight acres of land allotted by the Uttar Pradesh government in Ayodhya Cantonment earlier this year. The decision was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Shah also inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Special Operations Training Centre (S.O.T.C.) at the NSG headquarters in Manesar. Spread over eight acres at a cost of ₹141 crore, the centre will train NSG personnel and anti-terror units from state police forces in cutting-edge counterterrorism techniques. “In a vast country like India, the central government alone cannot tackle terrorism. NSG, state forces, and all Central Armed Police Forces must work together to ensure national safety,” Shah said.
The Ram Temple in Ayodhya, a high-profile and highly secured religious site, will be under the protection of this new NSG hub. NSG commandos, drawn from the Army, CAPFs, and state police, have previously been deployed in high-stakes operations, including the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the 2016 Pathankot strike.
