Ahmedabad: A Gujarat forest officer was found critically injured from a gunshot wound in her car on Thursday morning in Kamrej taluka, Surat district, along with her four-year-old son, police said. The child was unhurt.
The officer, identified as Sonal Arvindbhai Solanki, 33, a Range Forest Officer of the Pal division, underwent emergency surgery to remove the bullet from her head. Her condition remains critical, officials confirmed.
According to police, the incident occurred when her car crashed into a tree at a location between Jhokha and Vaav. The child told investigators that he heard a loud sound moments before his mother collapsed.
Deputy Superintendent of Police RR Sarvaiya, Kamrej, stated that Solanki’s family has filed a complaint accusing her husband, Nikunj Krantigiri Goswami, an inspector at Surat’s Regional Transport Office, of involvement in the attack. Goswami is currently missing, and police teams are conducting searches to locate him.
The couple married in 2020 but had been living separately for about a year. Solanki was residing with her parents in Jhokha and had previously accused her husband of harassment and atrocities. On November 2, she reportedly lodged a complaint with Kamrej police alleging that her vehicle was being tracked and expressing fears for the safety of herself and her son, citing her husband’s actions.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, and authorities are examining all leads, including possible involvement of Goswami, while ensuring the safety of Solanki’s child.
