Parliament’s Winter Session Scheduled for December 1–19, Announces Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju

The Union government has formally announced that the Winter Session of Parliament will take place from December 1 to December 19, marking an 18-day sitting period during which key legislative business is expected to be taken up. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju made the announcement on Saturday, confirming that the session will commence following approval from President Droupadi Murmu.

According to Rijiju, the President has consented to the government’s proposal for convening the session within the recommended timeframe. The announcement was made through an official communication on X, where the minister stated that the session dates would remain subject to adjustments depending on parliamentary exigencies and the progression of legislative business during the period.

Rijiju expressed the government’s expectation that the forthcoming session will be both productive and purposeful, emphasising its importance in addressing public priorities and strengthening parliamentary democratic processes. He noted that the government hopes for constructive participation from all members across political parties to ensure that pending legislative matters and new proposals can be deliberated effectively.

The Winter Session traditionally serves as the final significant parliamentary engagement of the calendar year, often featuring discussions on pressing national issues and the introduction or passage of important bills. The upcoming session is expected to draw particular attention given the political climate, ongoing debates over governance and national policy, and legislative items carried forward from previous sessions.

With the dates now confirmed, preparations within both Houses are set to begin, including scheduling discussions, identifying priority legislation, coordinating committee reports, and aligning government and Opposition strategies. The announcement sets the stage for what is likely to be a closely watched session, with political parties preparing to engage in debates that will shape the legislative agenda as the year draws to a close.
