Shakara Festival Set to Redefine Detty December in Lagos

Lagos is gearing up for its first-ever outdoor multi-day music festival, the Shakara Festival, scheduled from Thursday, December 18 to Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Nautica Beach Resort, Lekki. The event promises a four-day immersive celebration of music, culture, and lifestyle, aiming to showcase African music to the world.

Designed as a destination event for Detty December, the festival is expected to host 20,000 attendees daily, including diasporans returning home and music lovers from across the continent. Shakara Festival will highlight Nigeria’s vibrant contemporary culture, from fashion and food to music and arts.

By day, attendees can engage with panel discussions featuring industry leaders on the music business, the creative economy, and more. The festival grounds, dubbed Shakara Junction, will feature curated vendors offering food, fashion, and crafts. Afternoons will pulse with live performances from both established and emerging artists, spanning genres like Afrobeats, Alté, Soul, Gospel, and Afro-Fusion.

As night falls, the energy will shift to Shakara Afterdark, a series of exclusive parties in collaboration with Lagos’ most celebrated raves, keeping the celebration alive into the early hours.

“Shakara is about authentic expression and creating a space where different sounds and people can connect,” said Godson Oriaku, CEO & Founder of Shakara Festival. “From soul and gospel to the grittiest Alté, we are unifying Africa’s diverse musical landscape in one massive celebration.”

Abiola Francesca Dacosta-Ajayi, Founding Partner, added: “Shakara Festival is more than a music event; it’s a pioneering movement. We are creating a world-class platform to celebrate the richness of our culture and the incredible talent that Africa possesses. This festival is our gift to Lagos and a bold statement to the world about the power of our creative spirit.”

The lineup of artists is set to be announced in the coming weeks, promising a truly groundbreaking addition to Lagos’ Detty December calendar.
