Philadelphia Eagles Edge Green Bay Packers in 10-7 NFL Defensive Battle

Eagles Grind Out Narrow Win in Defensive Showdown

Green Bay, Wisconsin — The Philadelphia Eagles continued their winning momentum on Monday Night Football, defeating the Green Bay Packers 10-7 in a low-scoring, defence-heavy contest at Lambeau Field.

Led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, the Eagles capitalized on a pair of clutch plays to produce their only touchdown, while their defence smothered Jordan Love and the Packers’ offence for most of the night.

The win marked Philadelphia’s third consecutive victory, strengthening their grip on the NFC East with a 7-2 record. Meanwhile, Green Bay’s second straight loss dropped them to 5-3-1, sliding behind the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears in the NFC North standings.

Hurts and Smith Deliver the Game-Changing Drive

The game’s lone touchdown came early in the fourth quarter when the Eagles, clinging to a narrow 3-0 lead, unleashed a four-play, 80-yard drive.

On a key third-and-seven, Hurts tossed a short pass to Saquon Barkley, who broke free for a 41-yard gain to the Green Bay 36. One play later, Hurts found Devonta Smith on a 36-yard strike, as Smith leaped over a defender at the goal line to give Philadelphia a 10-0 lead.

The Packers answered quickly with a determined 11-play, 75-yard drive, capped by Josh Jacobs’ 6-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit to 10-7 with just under six minutes left.

Packers’ Late Push Falls Short

Trailing by three points with under 30 seconds remaining, Green Bay had one last chance to tie or win. Starting from their own 36-yard line, Jordan Love connected with Bo Melton for a 19-yard gain to reach the Philadelphia 46.

After spiking the ball to stop the clock, Love’s next pass fell incomplete, forcing the Packers to attempt a desperate 64-yard field goal. Kicker Brandon McManus’s long-range effort fell short, sealing the Eagles’ narrow 10-7 victory.

Defensive Masterclass Defines the Game

The Eagles’ defence dominated from start to finish, holding Green Bay to just 83 yards of total offence in the first half and forcing the Packers to go 0-for-5 on third downs before halftime.

Philadelphia’s defence came up big again in the closing minutes. On fourth-and-one deep in Green Bay territory, Josh Jacobs fumbled, and the Eagles recovered at the Packers’ 35-yard line, ending the comeback hopes.

Hurts completed 15 of 26 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown, while Barkley carried the ball 22 times for 60 yards. Smith led all receivers with three catches for 58 yards and the game’s only touchdown.

For Green Bay, Love finished 20-of-36 for 176 yards, and Jacobs rushed for 74 yards on 21 carries, including the Packers’ lone score.

The Eagles ultimately outgained the Packers 294-261 in total yardage, in what was a gritty battle of field position, turnovers, and defence.

Eagles Extend NFC East Lead

With the win, the Eagles (7-2) now sit comfortably atop the NFC East, three and a half games ahead of the Dallas Cowboys. The victory underscores Philadelphia’s resilience after two midseason losses and highlights their growing reputation as one of the league’s toughest defences.

Meanwhile, the Packers (5-3-1), who once led the NFC North, have now dropped two straight games while scoring just one touchdown in each. Green Bay’s offence, once among the league’s most consistent, continues to struggle with red-zone efficiency and protection for quarterback Jordan Love.

“Our defence really carried us tonight,” said Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni after the game. “We didn’t play our best offensively, but when we needed plays, Jalen and Devonta came through.”

Mistake-Filled First Half Sets the Tone

Both teams failed to score in the first half, combining for just 208 total yards and multiple penalties. The Eagles finally broke the deadlock on their first drive of the second half, with Jake Elliott’s 39-yard field goal giving them a 3-0 lead.

From there, the game turned into a tactical chess match — with both defences forcing punts and stifling rushing attacks. Green Bay’s inability to sustain drives early ultimately cost them in the final minutes.

Looking Ahead

The Philadelphia Eagles will return home next week to face the Arizona Cardinals, aiming for a fourth straight victory and further control over the NFC East.

The Green Bay Packers, on the other hand, face a crucial divisional showdown against the Detroit Lions, as they look to rebound from back-to-back losses and reclaim their NFC North momentum.
