Vigo, Spain – November 9, 2025 – Robert Lewandowski returned to form in spectacular fashion as he scored a brilliant hat-trick to lead Barcelona to a 4-2 victory over Celta Vigo at Balaidos Stadium, narrowing Real Madrid’s lead in La Liga to just three points.
The veteran Polish striker, who has battled injuries earlier this season, grabbed his seventh league goal in just four starts, helping Hansi Flick’s side capitalize on Madrid’s surprising 0-0 draw at Rayo Vallecano.
Barcelona’s Dominant Display
Barcelona raced into an early lead through a Lewandowski penalty in the 10th minute after a handball, only for Celta to equalize immediately. Despite missing several injured stars, Barcelona showcased resilience and attacking flair.
- Lewandowski struck again in the 37th minute from a Marcus Rashford cross.
- Celta responded through Borja Iglesias, leveling the score once more.
- Teenager Lamine Yamal then put Barcelona ahead with a close-range finish from a deflected Rashford cross.
- Lewandowski completed his treble in the 73rd minute, heading home from another Rashford assist to seal the win.
“After the injury I can see a different Robert Lewandowski, he’s positive, he came back very early,” Flick said. “For him, for his confidence, it’s great to score three goals today.”
Lewandowski described the game as “one of the craziest” of the season but was delighted with the result.
Despite a late red card for Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona’s control in the second half ensured they left Vigo with all three points.
Real Madrid Frustrated at Rayo Vallecano
Earlier, Real Madrid were held to a goalless draw by Rayo Vallecano, missing the opportunity to extend their lead atop the La Liga table.
- Madrid created chances but were consistently thwarted by Rayo goalkeeper Augusto Batalla.
- Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham were effectively contained by the hosts.
“We’re in November, there’s a long way to go, we need to be demanding of ourselves but also be measured,” said Xabi Alonso, Madrid coach.
The draw marks only the second time this season Madrid have dropped points in the league, leaving Barcelona poised to mount a serious challenge for the title.
Next Steps
Barcelona will look to build on this momentum in upcoming La Liga fixtures, while Real Madrid must respond quickly to maintain their lead. Lewandowski’s resurgence offers a timely boost for the champions, whose attacking unit is regaining cohesion ahead of a demanding winter schedule.
