Amit Shah Orders Agencies to “Hunt Down Each and Every Culprit” Behind Red Fort Car Blast

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday issued a strong directive to central agencies to identify and apprehend all those involved in the deadly Red Fort car explosion. The blast, which occurred on Monday evening near a traffic signal close to one of the gates of the Red Fort or Lal Quila Metro Station, killed 13 people and left several others injured.

After chairing a second high-level review meeting, Shah posted on X that all individuals connected to the incident would face the “full wrath” of India’s security and investigative agencies. He stated that he had instructed senior officials to track down every culprit responsible for the attack.

Shah emphasised that authorities would pursue all leads and ensure accountability. He added that review meetings with top officials had already been conducted to assess the situation and coordinate the response.

The blast took place in a Hyundai i20 vehicle, though the exact cause of the explosion remains undetermined. The investigation has been formally transferred to the National Investigation Agency, which is probing the possibility of a terror-linked operation.

In the hours following the attack, Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted overnight raids in Pulwama. Six individuals were detained for questioning, including three family members of Dr. Umar Un Nabi, a Pulwama-based doctor who is considered a crucial link in the case. According to investigators, the Hyundai i20 involved in the blast was purchased by Dr. Umar.

The doctor has been missing since the Faridabad terror module was uncovered, a case in which two other doctors from Kashmir were arrested and a large quantity of explosives—2,900 kilograms—was recovered. His disappearance and the vehicle purchase connection have made him a key figure in the ongoing inquiry.

As authorities intensify efforts to trace the motive behind the explosion and identify the individuals involved, Shah’s directive signals a comprehensive crackdown. Multiple agencies, including the NIA and J&K Police, are coordinating to examine all possible angles, recover evidence, and determine whether the Red Fort blast is linked to broader terror networks.
