The Chancellor of Covenant University, Bishop David Oyedepo, has urged Nigerian youths to take full responsibility for their lives, warning that failure to do so could result in lifelong setbacks.
Oyedepo, who is also the President of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel International), gave the charge during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun State.
He emphasised that responsibility is the price of greatness, noting that individuals who refuse to take ownership of their choices will eventually become liabilities.
“Responsibility is the price of every great destiny. Nobody is a failure until he or she looks for someone to blame,” Oyedepo said.
“If you fail or succeed in life, it is your choice.”
Discipline and Integrity as Lifelong Virtues
The cleric advised youths to embrace discipline, hard work, and integrity, describing these as essential virtues for achieving success.
“There is no star without a scar, and the scar of every star is sacrifice,” he stated.
“When you leave your life to chance, you do not have a chance.”
He added that character and integrity remain central to success, warning that lack of integrity devalues a person’s worth faster than any other factor.
A Call to a Generation of Leaders
Oyedepo further reminded young Nigerians that they represent the hope of the nation and the world, stressing that the youth cannot afford to disappoint destiny or squander the opportunities before them.
“It is obvious that the youth are the ones the world is waiting for,” he said. “They cannot afford to disappoint destiny and the great future that awaits them.”
