Insecurity: Christian Youths Urge Tinubu to Sack NSA Ribadu Over Poor Coordination

Christian youths under the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately remove National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu over alleged inefficiency and poor coordination in addressing Nigeria’s escalating insecurity.

The appeal was made in a statement on Wednesday by the Youth Wing of CAN (YOWICAN), signed by its leaders, Bako Elijah and Sunday Aimu.

The group said Nigeria’s worsening security situation reflects “deep systemic failures” within the nation’s security architecture.

“The bitter truth is that the current wave of insecurity reveals deep weaknesses in our national security framework. While many officers serve with patriotism, others have been compromised, undermining national cohesion and public trust,” the statement read.

YOWICAN also condemned alleged collusion between some government officials, clerics, and terrorist groups, urging authorities to expose and prosecute sponsors of insecurity across the country.

The youths expressed concern over the rise of hate preaching and religious incitement, warning that unchecked inflammatory sermons could further destabilize Nigeria.

“Religion should unite, not divide, our people. Clerics and traditional rulers who exploit faith platforms to promote hate or violence must be held accountable,” they said.

The group called for the immediate replacement of the NSA with a “competent, nonpartisan, and nationally trusted professional” and advocated for inclusive governance reflecting Nigeria’s religious and regional diversity.

“Mr. President, the time for decisive leadership is now. Nigerians are yearning for safety, justice, and trust in governance. Speaking the truth is our patriotic duty to strengthen Nigeria,” the statement concluded.

The call comes amid renewed global attention on Nigeria’s security crisis, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ and threats of possible military action over alleged killings of Christians.
