FARIDABAD: A bomb disposal team of the National Security Guard (NSG) reached Khandawali village in Faridabad on Wednesday evening after a red Ford EcoSport allegedly linked to Dr. Umar ur Nabi, the prime suspect in the recent Red Fort blast case, was discovered parked outside a farmhouse.
According to police sources, the area within a 200-metre radius around the vehicle has been cordoned off to ensure public safety while security personnel and bomb experts carry out inspections.
NSG Called in to Rule Out Explosives
Officials said the NSG’s Bomb Disposal Squad was called following intelligence inputs from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, suggesting that the car may have been used or abandoned by suspects connected to the Delhi explosion.
“The area has been completely cordoned off to maintain security. Once the NSG clears the vehicle, it will be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for detailed forensic examination,” an official familiar with the operation said.
Vehicle Linked to Key Suspect
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the car — a red Ford EcoSport (registration number DL10 CK 0458) — was found parked near a farmhouse owned by an acquaintance of Dr. Umar, who had earlier worked at Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad.
“In connection with the Delhi blast case, the red Ford EcoSport was found parked near Khandawali village at a farmhouse owned by an acquaintance of Dr. Umar. The vehicle has been seized and handed over to the investigating agency for forensic examination,” said Yashpal Singh, spokesperson for the Faridabad Police.
Focus on Dr. Umar ur Nabi and Associates
Investigators said Dr. Umar ur Nabi became a central figure in the probe after forensic and CCTV analyses linked him to a Hyundai i20 (HR26CE7674) seen slowing at a red light near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening before exploding into a massive fireball.
Multiple raids were subsequently conducted across Faridabad and the NCR region, but Nabi reportedly escaped. Several of his associates — including doctors and students — have been arrested, and investigators claim they were part of a Jaish-e-Mohammed module allegedly plotting coordinated terror attacks.
During the raids, police said they seized nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosive material, triggering heightened alerts across the Delhi-NCR region.
Security Tightened in NCR
Following the discovery of the EcoSport, local police increased patrols in and around Faridabad, Ballabgarh, and Delhi’s border areas. Bomb detection and disposal units are on standby as the NIA prepares to take over the vehicle for forensic and trace evidence analysis.
Officials added that the NSG’s clearance report would determine whether the explosives used in the Red Fort blast could be chemically linked to material found in earlier seizures.
The discovery of the car marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation, which authorities say could help unravel the network behind one of the most serious terror incidents in the capital in recent years.
