Lagos Startup Announces Firewood Jollof Festival 2025 to Celebrate African Culinary Heritage

Lagos-based foodtech startup, Firewood Jollof, has announced the second edition of its annual Jollof Festival, scheduled for November 29, 2025, at Muri-Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos. The festival aims to unify African culinary heritage and promote food tourism across the continent.

Speaking at a press briefing, Founder and CEO, Chizoma Chukwueke, said this year’s edition, themed “Unifying African Jollof,” will preserve Africa’s rich food identity while celebrating the traditional firewood cooking method.

“Every time this festival comes on board, it is something that will happen every year. This is Firewood Jollof 2.0. This year is bigger and better,” Chukwueke said, noting that the festival evokes the nostalgic flavors of how jollof rice was traditionally cooked.

The 2025 festival will feature West African Jollof prepared with ingredients from Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, and Kenya, along with cooking competitions, celebrity appearances, a children’s area, and expanded vendor participation.

Access Bank is the headline sponsor, with Devon Kings Oil, MTN, and Nestlé Pure Life supporting the event. Organizers aim to provide SMEs a platform to showcase products, generate income, and reach new audiences.

“We want to be part of building and making memories. Firewood Jollof aligns with our positioning, which is unifying consumers. There will be food sampling, experience centres, games, giveaways, and much more,” said Voke Emeje, Assistant Brand Manager of Devon Kings Oil.

Marketing Director, Chibuzor Chukwueke, said the festival expects over 20,000 attendees, double last year’s turnout of 10,000, and more than 35 SMEs contributing to economic growth and food tourism. The company also collaborates with local farmers to source ingredients, supporting Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

Plans are already underway to expand the festival to other Nigerian states in 2026, with long-term ambitions to take the event to other African countries and London.
