Comedian and actor Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has cautioned couples against publicizing private marital disputes on social media, warning that doing so could have long-term negative effects on children.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Monday, Basketmouth—who has publicly confirmed the end of his own marriage—stressed that while family challenges are inevitable, broadcasting them online exposes children to potential stigma and emotional harm.
“Families have had problems since the beginning of time. I also had issues in my marriage, but I never brought them online to share details,” he said.
The comedian highlighted a growing trend of couples airing sensitive issues on social platforms, noting that such actions could later be used against their children by peers.
“They forget that their children will grow up and see these things online. Their children’s friends might use these details against them and damage their emotional well-being,” he added.
Basketmouth also addressed the recent public dispute between actress Regina Daniels and her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, urging the senator to exercise discretion and handle the matter privately.
“Senator, you are an elder. If nobody will tell you, I will. Every day this matter gets worse. Handle it with the maturity expected of your office,” he said.
His comments have sparked discussions online, with many social media users supporting his call for discretion in managing family issues in the digital age.
