Influencer Lindsay Dewey Shares Tragic Loss of Son in Home Accident: A Reminder to Anchor Heavy Furniture for Safety

Lindsay Dewey, a lifestyle influencer known for sharing glimpses of her family life on social media, has tragically revealed the heartbreaking news of the loss of her 22-month-old son, Reed, following a devastating accident at home. In a series of emotional Instagram posts, Dewey has bravely opened up about the incident in hopes of raising awareness and preventing similar accidents from happening to other families.

The tragic accident occurred when a large mirror in their home, which had been leaning against the wall, fell on Reed after he was playing with one of his suction-cup bowls. Dewey shared the details in a heartfelt Instagram Story highlight titled “Awareness,” explaining how her son’s playful behavior led to the mirror toppling onto him.

Dewey wrote, “Reed had one of his suction-cup bowls and stuck it on the mirror, pulling it back and forth, likely trying to pry it off. In an instant, the mirror fell, and within five seconds, I rushed to lift it off him.”

Despite thinking the mirror was too heavy for her children to move, Dewey revealed that she had never considered anchoring it to the wall for added safety. “I never thought they could move it,” she admitted. “We never felt the urgency to anchor it.”

Upon lifting the mirror, Dewey was relieved to see Reed lying still, eyes open but not crying, assuming he was in shock. However, she quickly realized something was seriously wrong. “I knew something was VERY wrong,” she said. “The mirror hit his head in the most precise way and fractured his skull, causing severe traumatic brain injury.”

Dewey, still in shock from the tragic loss of her son, courageously chose to share her painful experience to raise awareness about the importance of anchoring heavy furniture and mirrors. “I replay it in my mind too often,” she said. “We’re sharing this to prevent this from happening to anyone else.”

She further explained that while it would have been easier to keep the details private, she felt compelled to speak out to potentially save another child. “We could’ve kept it to ourselves and protected our hearts from any criticism. But sharing this could save another child, and that makes it worth it.”

Dewey’s emotional post has resonated with many parents, as she hopes others will learn from her family’s tragic experience and take precautions to anchor items such as mirrors and furniture to prevent similar accidents.
