BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu Slams N550 Million Lawsuit Against Nigerian Medical Association Over Alleged Fake Report

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a N550 million lawsuit against the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and 10 medical practitioners for allegedly issuing a falsified medical report about his health status.

The development was announced on Friday by Kanu’s lawyer, Barrister Maxwell Opara, in a video posted on his Facebook page.

“This is the FCT High Court, Abuja. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has filed a N550 million suit against the Nigerian Medical Association and the 10 medical doctors that conspired and issued a fake medical report against him,” Opara said.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported in October 2025 that Kanu’s legal team accused the NMA of submitting a fabricated medical report without conducting the court-ordered examination.

Kanu’s Special Counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, stated that the report tendered in court was dated October 13—long after the directive for a medical examination was issued—leaving the defence with no time to properly review or challenge it.

“That medical report we were served in court today was dated October 13. This obviously means the defence had no ample opportunity to react to it. It was more of an ambush,” Ejimakor said.

He added that the court had ordered the NMA to examine Kanu, with the directive issued on September 26 and reaffirmed on October 8, but no such examination took place.

Ejimakor further explained that the NMA report appeared to rely on informal interactions with Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters on September 18—before the court’s formal order.

“That order was never obeyed. They never examined him. That report was based on some informal meetings they held with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as far back as September 18 at the DSS headquarters. What we were served in court today—we are not sure of where it emanated from,” he added.

According to Opara, the controversial report significantly influenced the court’s decision to deny Kanu bail.

“The court ordered that they should examine Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, but they never did. They wrote what they called a medical report, and it was that report that made the court refuse his bail,” he said.

He added that the legal team had previously written to the NMA and the implicated doctors requesting clarification, but received no reply, prompting the lawsuit.

“Based on that, we had written to them, and they did not show any remorse. We have filed a N550 million suit against the Nigerian Medical Association and other medical doctors,” Opara said.

The new lawsuit deepens the ongoing legal battle involving Kanu, who has been held by the DSS since June 2021 following his controversial rendition to Nigeria and subsequent prosecution on terrorism and treason-related charges.
