The Nigerian music scene will be well-represented at the 2024 African Military Games in Abuja, with renowned singers D’banj, Olamide, Yemi Alade, and Timi Dakolo scheduled to perform at the opening ceremony today.
The Nigerian Army took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the highly anticipated performances, stating, “The stage is set and the legends are coming for the opening ceremony of #AMGA2024. Watch @Olamide, @iamdbanj, @yemialadee, and @timidakolo light up the opening ceremony like never before. It’s happening tomorrow, 20th November 2024.”
The 2nd African Military Games (AMGA 2024) is set to feature 25 countries competing in a variety of events. Athletes will engage in 19 sporting activities, most of which will take place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, with the exception of obstacle crossing and shooting events.
The games are being organized by the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) and the International Military Sports Council (CISM), bringing together military athletes from across the continent for this prestigious sporting event.
D’banj has previously graced the stage at the closing ceremony of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa, where the Super Eagles emerged victorious. Yemi Alade also has experience performing at major African events, having sung the official soundtrack and performed at the opening ceremony of the last AFCON in Ivory Coast. This year’s opening ceremony promises to be an unforgettable showcase of Nigerian musical talent.
