As the 2027 elections in Ogun State draw closer, political speculation is heating up, with several names emerging as potential contenders to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun. While many frontrunners are already widely discussed, two figures—Jimi Adebisi Lawal and Chief Ganiyu Adeleke Dada—are being tipped as possible “wildcards” who could disrupt expectations.
In the Ogun State PDP, Jimi Adebisi Lawal is reportedly positioned as a counterweight to Ladi Adebutu, drawing support from loyalists of the late Kashamu Buruji. Lawal, 65, is a former special adviser to ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai and ex-Managing Director of the defunct Alpha Merchant Bank, and he is said to maintain strong ties with Governor Seyi Makinde and Minister of FCT Nyesom Wike.
Meanwhile, Chief Ganiyu Adeleke Dada, 63, a prominent member of the Olota-In-Council, is also being tipped as a potential wildcard. Hailing from an influential family in the Ota Awori kingdom, Dada is well-connected politically, having played key roles in the elections of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, past Ogun West senators Akin Odunsi and Gbolahan Dada. He holds a B.Sc. in Economics and Politics from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and an MBA from Cardiff Business School. He is also chairman of Aldrem Ventures Limited.
With their strong networks, experience, and influence, both Lawal and Dada could reshape the political landscape of Ogun State, making them figures to watch as the 2027 election approaches.
