Rocket Attack in Damascus Injures Woman, Sparks Security Concerns

Damascus, Syria – November 14, 2025 – A rocket attack struck the Mezzeh district of Syria’s capital on Friday night, injuring one woman and causing significant material damage, according to Syrian state media. Authorities are investigating the incident, which has heightened security concerns in the city.

Explosion in Mezzeh District

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that rockets were fired at a residential building in the western Mezzeh 86 neighborhood, a predominantly civilian area that also houses several diplomatic missions. Syrian state media described the attackers as “unknown assailants” and confirmed that the rockets were launched from a mobile launcher.

A security source told Al-Ikhbariah TV that the Syrian security forces have initiated an investigation into the attack and are actively pursuing those responsible.

“The weapons used and the perpetrators behind the attack remain unknown so far,” SANA reported.

Al Jazeera Arabic’s correspondent in Damascus said the explosion caused material damage to nearby buildings and infrastructure. The area was quickly cordoned off by security personnel, preventing civilians and journalists from approaching the scene.

Context of Recent Violence in Damascus

While explosions in Damascus have become less frequent in recent months, the city has experienced sporadic attacks since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December last year to armed rebels. The instability in Syria has also been compounded by frequent Israeli air strikes, which have targeted military assets throughout the country.

Since the end of the 54-year Assad dynasty, Israel has conducted hundreds of air strikes in Syria, primarily focusing on Syrian army positions, further escalating regional tensions.

The latest attack comes as the Syrian Ministry of Interior continues its security campaigns in Damascus and surrounding areas, aiming to prevent further violence in the capital.

Civilian Safety Concerns

Security analysts and local residents expressed concern over the increasing risk to civilians in Damascus. The Mezzeh district, home to both residential and diplomatic buildings, underscores the vulnerability of urban areas amid ongoing regional conflicts.

As investigations continue, authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activity, while international observers continue monitoring the situation closely.
