Stockholm, Sweden – November 14, 2025 – At least three people have died and another three were injured after a double-decker bus crashed into a bus stop in central Stockholm, Swedish police confirmed. Authorities said there is no indication that the incident was a deliberate attack.
Incident Details
The crash occurred in the Ostermalm district, near the Royal Institute of Technology, in the Swedish capital. Police reported that all six casualties were pedestrians waiting at the bus stop, and no passengers were on the bus at the time of the accident.
“It is being investigated as involuntary manslaughter. The bus driver has been arrested, but that is routine in such an incident,” a Swedish police spokesperson said.
Emergency crews, including ambulances and police officers, responded immediately. Media images showed rescuers attending to people trapped beneath the bus, highlighting the chaotic scene. Two seriously injured victims were transported to hospital, according to health authorities.
Eyewitness Accounts
Michelle Mac Key, a witness at the scene, described the chaos to Expressen:
“I crossed the road and saw the double-decker bus that had mowed down an entire bus stop queue. People were screaming and trying to help the injured. It was so unreal… I thought it was an exercise at first.”
A nurse and a doctor on site assisted the emergency response, working alongside police and paramedics. Witnesses described seeing both deceased and injured people on the ground, some trapped under the vehicle.
Official Reactions
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed condolences on social media, stating:
“People who might have been on their way home to family, friends, or a quiet evening at home. We do not yet know the cause, but right now my thoughts are primarily with those affected and their loved ones.”
Police have launched a full investigation into the crash. The driver remains in custody as authorities continue to determine the cause of the accident.
Context and Safety Concerns
While the cause remains under investigation, Swedish officials are treating the incident as a traffic-related accident, rather than an intentional act. Authorities have called for public caution and urged anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
The incident has drawn attention to pedestrian safety in central Stockholm and raised questions about bus operations and urban traffic management in the capital.
