Arunachal Pradesh to Hold PRI and Municipal Elections on December 15

The Arunachal Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) has announced the comprehensive schedule for the 12th General Elections to the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and the third municipal elections for the cities of Itanagar and Pasighat. Polling will be conducted in a single phase on December 15, 2025.

This election process, which is set to engage over 40,000 personnel, will strengthen the grassroots democratic framework in the state, which has a total electorate of 8,31,648 voters.

Voter Distribution Highlights:

  • Total Electorate: 8,31,648
  • PRI Voters: 7,59,210
  • Municipal Voters: 72,438
  • Gender Ratio: Female voters notably outnumber males in the Panchayat rolls, with 1,123 women per 1,000 men.

Security and Administrative Measures

To ensure a smooth and fair election process, the SEC has implemented the following measures:

  • Deployment: More than 40,000 personnel, including 15,000 polling staff, will be engaged.
  • Observers: 29 General Election Observers—one for each district and two for the municipal bodies—will be deployed.
  • Polling Stations: A total of 2,171 polling stations are earmarked for the Panchayat elections and 79 for the municipal polls.
  • Sensitive Zones: Security arrangements have been tightened in areas identified as sensitive, especially Tirap, Changlang, and Longding districts.

The SEC has appealed to the State Government, political parties, and candidates to cooperate fully to ensure “free, fair and fearless elections.”
