Ray J Countersues Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner Over Alleged Breach of $6 Million Sex Tape Settlement

Ray J, also known as William Ray Norwood Jr., has filed a countersuit against Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner, accusing the reality TV stars of violating a $6 million settlement agreement regarding his and Kardashian’s infamous sex tape. The legal battle escalates months after Kardashian and Jenner sued Ray J for defamation, with Ray J calling their claims “malicious falsehoods” designed to generate publicity and exact punishment.

Ray J’s Countersuit Details

Filed on November 13, 2025, Ray J’s cross-complaint alleges that Kardashian, 45, and Jenner, 70, breached the settlement reached in April 2023. According to the filing, the agreement stipulated that the sex tape would not be publicly referenced on The Kardashians or used to disparage Ray J. The singer is seeking $1 million in damages, along with interest, attorney fees, and additional relief the court deems “just and proper.”

Ray J denies all allegations from the October defamation lawsuit filed by Kardashian and Jenner, calling it “a public relations charade” and accusing them of orchestrating the release of false claims about him to gain media attention. He claims their suit is “not about defamation” but “about publicity, power, and punishment.”

Background: The Sex Tape and Original Settlement

The controversy centers on the sex tape filmed consensually in 2003. Ray J alleges that he and Kardashian discussed releasing it in 2006, with Jenner overseeing the video’s distribution through Vivid Entertainment, which ultimately released the tape in 2007 under licensing agreements.

According to Ray J’s filing, Kardashian and Jenner allegedly fabricated statements to create buzz for their Hulu series The Kardashians, portraying Ray J as a villain. This included claims of sexual assault and extortion related to a supposed additional unreleased sex tape.

The 2023 settlement reportedly included a $6 million payment to Ray J and clauses intended to prevent further public discussion of the tape. Ray J asserts that the defendants breached this agreement when they and other parties — including Kendall Jenner and Kanye West (Ye) — discussed the tape on the third season of The Kardashians, which premiered in May 2023.

Defamation Lawsuit and Ray J’s Response

Kardashian and Jenner previously sued Ray J in October 2025 for defamation, citing statements he made on TMZ and Twitch earlier this year comparing their alleged actions to RICO violations involving Sean “Diddy” Combs. Ray J claims that his remarks were off-camera or incidental and that any potential breaches were excused by Kardashian and Jenner’s prior alleged contract violations.

Ray J’s lawyer argues that the Kardashians’ defamation suit is a tactic to maintain control over the narrative and punish Ray J for refusing to participate in the manufactured controversy. The countersuit is now pending in court, with Ray J requesting that the defamation case be dismissed and that he be awarded damages for the alleged breach.

Kardashian and Jenner’s Response

In response to the countersuit, attorney Alex Spiro stated, “After realizing he is losing the case and losing his way, this disjointed rambling distraction is not intimidating anyone. Ray J will lose this frivolous case too.”

The ongoing legal dispute highlights the complex and highly publicized history surrounding the sex tape, the ensuing settlements, and the continued media coverage involving both Ray J and the Kardashian-Jenner family.
