Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Nov 16, 2025: In a tragic accident on Sunday morning, five young men lost their lives when their car collided with a sand-laden tractor on the Gwalior-Jhansi highway in Madhya Pradesh. The accident occurred at approximately 6 a.m. near Malwa College, around 20 kilometers from Gwalior district headquarters, leaving local authorities and residents shocked.
According to Gwalior City Police Chief Hina Khan, the victims were travelling together in a white SUV from the Dabra side of the highway when the vehicle struck the tractor from behind. The collision was fatal, and no survivors have been reported from the incident so far.
Details of the Accident
The district’s Superintendent of Police, Robin Jain, stated that the police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. CCTV footage from the highway and nearby areas is being examined to determine whether negligence on the part of the tractor driver or other factors, such as the tractor trolley coming onto the road from the wrong direction, contributed to the tragedy.
Hina Khan told ANI, “This morning, between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m., the control room received information that an accident had occurred on the highway in front of Malwa College, involving a collision between a car and a tractor. Police immediately rushed to the scene to verify the incident.” She added that the SUV was carrying five boys, who were reportedly on a trip together when the collision occurred.
Victims and Post-Mortem
The bodies of the victims have been transported to the Gwalior district hospital for post-mortem examinations. Early investigations indicate that some of the deceased belong to the Rajawat family from Adityapuram, though the identities of the remaining victims are still being verified by authorities.
“While the details are still unclear, some of the boys belong to the Rajawat family, residents of Adityapuram, and we are verifying the rest. Their bodies have been kept for post-mortem at the district hospital,” Khan said.
The accident has raised questions about road safety and traffic management on the Gwalior-Jhansi highway, a route known for heavy vehicular movement, including trucks and tractors transporting materials such as sand and construction goods.
Tractor Driver Sought
Authorities have noted that the tractor driver was not present at the scene following the collision. However, the police have obtained the driver’s contact details and are pursuing legal action based on the information available. Hina Khan stated, “The tractor driver was not found at the scene, but we have his contact number and are taking action against him based on that.”
The incident has prompted local officials to appeal to drivers to exercise caution, particularly on stretches of the highway where slow-moving vehicles, including tractors, share the road with faster-moving passenger vehicles.
Community Reaction
Residents and local community members expressed their grief over the loss of five young lives. Families of the victims are being consoled and provided support by local authorities as investigations continue. The accident has underscored concerns over highway safety and adherence to traffic regulations in Madhya Pradesh, with authorities emphasizing the need for vigilance among both tractor and car drivers to prevent such tragedies in the future.
As the post-mortem examinations conclude, police have indicated that they will share further details about the identities of all the victims and the circumstances leading to the accident. Investigators are also exploring whether factors such as poor visibility, road conditions, or mechanical issues may have contributed to the crash.
The tragic collision serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with highway travel, particularly in regions where mixed traffic—including heavy vehicles like tractors—shares the same lanes as passenger cars.
