Thailand and Cambodia to Sign Ceasefire at ASEAN Summit, Malaysia Says

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia and the United States are set to help broker a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan announced on Tuesday.

Mohamad expressed hope that the agreement will be signed during the upcoming ASEAN leaders’ summit in Kuala Lumpur, scheduled for October 26–28.

The announcement comes after tensions between the two nations escalated over undemarcated sections of their 817-kilometer (508-mile) land border, leading to a deadly five-day clash in July.

The conflict, the most severe between Thailand and Cambodia in more than a decade, resulted in at least 48 deaths and temporarily displaced hundreds of thousands on both sides.
