The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed claims of an assassination attempt on Nigerian Navy officer Lt. Ahmed Yerima, describing the circulating reports as baseless and unverified.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, clarified that no such incident had been reported or recorded anywhere within the FCT. She urged the public to disregard the false narratives and refrain from spreading unverified information that could cause panic.
Adeh also advised residents to remain security-conscious and report suspicious activity to the nearest police station rather than rely on unconfirmed social media claims.
The rebuttal follows online reports suggesting that Lt. Yerima was trailed by men in unmarked vehicles following a recent confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The alleged incident reportedly occurred around 6:30pm from NIPCO Filling Station off Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasco Way.
No official confirmation of any attack was made by authorities, and the FCT Police emphasized that the narrative does not correspond with any law enforcement record.
