The Gidan Waya community in Lere Local Government Area, Kaduna State, has released photographs of 12 residents abducted by bandits last week, including six women, a minor, three young men, and an ECWA Church pastor.
The attack, which occurred on the night of November 11, 2025, reportedly left four people dead and several others injured. The victims are still in captivity, and the community is appealing for their immediate and safe release.
Amnesty International condemned the assault, describing it as a stark example of the ongoing failure of Nigerian authorities to protect citizens and hold perpetrators accountable. The organization highlighted that rural communities in northern Nigeria have faced persistent threats from armed groups since 2016, forcing many families to abandon their homes.
The human rights body also noted that the kidnapping included children aged 13, 14, and 15, and emphasized that attacks and abductions have escalated in parts of northwestern and north-central Nigeria, with villages in Plateau, Zamfara, southern Kaduna, Benue, and Katsina among the worst affected.
Amnesty International called for urgent action to protect vulnerable communities and bring perpetrators of human rights violations to justice.
