In a heartwarming gesture that transcended party lines, Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram lauded the musical talent of newly elected BJP MLA Maithili Thakur, days after her decisive win in Bihar. At just 25, Thakur became the youngest member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, representing Alinagar, and her victory has drawn attention not only for her political achievement but also for her passion for music.

Chidambaram reshared a 2020 post by Thakur in which she performed a Tamil song, “Kannana Kanney” from the 2018 film Viswasam, originally starring Ajith Kumar. Alongside the post, he wrote:
“Hope your talent & passion for music is not curbed & stifled by the rigours & demands of being a constituency MLA. @maithilithakur. Continue to nurture your passion.”

Thakur responded by sharing a new cover of the same song on November 16, reflecting her continued dedication to music even as she embarks on her political journey.

Thakur’s Electoral Triumph
Thakur’s victory in Alinagar was decisive. According to the Election Commission, she defeated her nearest rival, RJD’s Binod Mishra, by over 11,730 votes, marking a strong mandate from her constituency.

Speaking to ANI during the vote count, Thakur expressed her excitement and sense of responsibility:
“This is like a dream. People have a lot of expectations of me… This will be my first term as an MLA, and I will do my best for my constituency… I will serve my people as their daughter… I can only see Alinagar right now and how I can work for them.”

She also revealed that she has been maintaining a diary during her constituency visits, noting issues that require attention. Her goal, she said, is to address these shortcomings and ensure that the trust placed in her as a young candidate is justified over the next five years.

Priorities for the Constituency
Among the immediate issues Thakur highlighted, poor rural road conditions emerged as the top priority. She acknowledged the difficulties faced by residents due to infrastructure challenges and promised to focus on improving roads to enhance connectivity and ease of living for her constituents.
