Gov. Bassey Otu Dissolves Cross River State Local Government Service Commission Board

Governor Bassey Otu has ordered the dissolution of the Local Government Service Commission Board, following reports of alleged abuse of office and mismanagement during the commission’s recent recruitment exercise.

In a statement on Tuesday, the governor described the irregularities as unjust and unacceptable, warning that such actions undermine public trust in government.

“My dear people of Cross River State, I want to let you know that I have dissolved the Board of the Local Government Service Commission. This is because we discovered serious abuse of office and cheating in the recent job recruitment,” Otu said.

He assured that the suspended recruitment exercise will be restarted under transparent and merit-based procedures, ensuring that only qualified candidates are hired.

“What happened was wrong and unfair. It betrayed the trust you placed in us. We will start it again properly, clean, open, and based on merit, so that only qualified people get the jobs,” the governor stated.

Otu emphasized that corruption will not be tolerated in any form, noting that it hinders the state’s growth and development.

“We will continue to take strong steps to make our institutions honest and trustworthy. Together, we will build a better Cross River State where things are done the right way,” he added.
