Adewale Adebayo, the 2023 Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over Tuesday’s clash between rival factions of the party.
In an interview on Arise Television, Adebayo described the PDP as “very lawless” during its time in government. He made the remarks amid reports of a standoff at the party’s national headquarters, which saw factions led by Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo State) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State) clash with supporters of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over leadership control.
Adebayo said, “With respect to the catastrophe that occurred at the PDP headquarters yesterday, no one is surprised. When it was in government, it was a very lawless party that was doing all the rigging and manipulation. And now that they are out of government, they are cannibalising each other.”
He also raised concerns about the role of the police, stating, “The police belong to all of us, but PDP belongs to its members. I am concerned if the police are being used to be on either side.”
