New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday took Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, into custody following his deportation from the United States. Anmol, who has been absconding since 2022, is a key accused in several high-profile criminal cases, including the murder of former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique.
According to the NIA, Anmol operated in close coordination with his brother Lawrence and designated terrorist Goldy Brar. “Operating closely with various Bishnoi gang associates, Anmol continued to run terror syndicates and execute terrorist acts from the US for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, using its operatives on the ground,” the NIA said in an official statement.
Investigations reveal that Anmol actively aided Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi in carrying out acts of terror between 2020 and 2023. While living in the US, he allegedly provided logistical support, shelter, and operational guidance to the gang’s shooters and ground operatives. He was also reportedly involved in extortion activities in India from abroad, coordinating with other gang members to continue the syndicate’s criminal operations.
Anmol Bishnoi is now the 19th individual arrested in connection with the Lawrence Bishnoi-led terror syndicate. He had already been charge-sheeted by the NIA in March 2023, but remained on the run until his deportation. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) coordinated with Indian authorities and informed Baba Siddique’s family prior to Anmol’s removal from the US.
Anmol’s alleged criminal portfolio includes involvement in Baba Siddique’s murder, the April 2024 firing at Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence, and the high-profile killing of Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala. In total, he is facing 18 criminal cases across India.
A native of Fazilka, Punjab, Anmol reportedly fled India on a forged passport, traveling through Nepal, Dubai, and Kenya before settling in the United States. His deportation marks a major development in the ongoing probe into the Bishnoi gang’s cross-border operations and highlights the international dimensions of organized crime and terror syndicates operating from abroad.
With Anmol now in NIA custody, authorities are expected to intensify investigations into the gang’s activities and their coordination with associates outside India. The agency has reiterated its commitment to dismantling terror networks and bringing all perpetrators to justice, ensuring that those orchestrating criminal acts from foreign soil face prosecution under Indian law.
