Constable, Home Guard Jawan Injured in Stone Pelting in UP’s Etah; Six Arrested

Etah: A police constable and a home guard jawan were injured on Tuesday in Chaman Nagariya village of Etah district after a sudden outbreak of stone pelting while they were responding to a dispute between two groups, allegedly over a mobile phone. Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, police officials said on Wednesday.

Among those arrested, two have been identified as Dilshad and Salman. According to police, the altercation between the groups prompted villagers to alert authorities, leading a DIAL-112 team to the scene to defuse tensions.

As the personnel began making inquiries, a crowd gathered, escalating the situation. A video of the incident circulating on social media shows a heated exchange between the accused and the policemen before the violence erupted.

Aliganj Circle Officer Nitish Garg said, “When the two personnel were assessing the situation, some people started throwing bricks and stones, injuring home guard jawan Prempal and constable Pankaj. The accused also damaged the police vehicle.”

Aliganj SHO Nirdosh Sengar added that during initial questioning, Dilshad claimed he was beaten by Salman over the mobile phone issue. “When the police team tried to calm the situation, both sides began accusing the police of unnecessarily intervening. At that moment, a man identified as Shan Mohammad arrived at the spot and argued with the police, further escalating the conflict,” Sengar said.

On receiving reports of the incident, CO Garg arrived at the village with additional personnel. “The team was able to bring the situation under control and detained six people, who were later formally arrested,” he said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Shravanak Pandey said extra forces have been deployed in the village to prevent any further unrest, and searches are ongoing for other individuals allegedly involved in the stone-pelting incident.

The police are continuing their investigation to ensure that all participants in the violence are identified and action is taken against them under the law.
