The Executive Committee of the APC, Ward 4 in Sagamu LGA, Ogun State, has insisted that Senator Gbenga Daniel remains suspended from the party, rejecting the National Working Committee’s (NWC) assertion that the former governor is still a bona fide member.
Addressing journalists at the Ward Secretariat in Sabo, Ward Secretary Hon. Oluwole Aduroja said the suspension followed due process after Daniel allegedly failed to respond to multiple invitations to defend himself against accusations of anti-party activities.
Speaking on behalf of the 19-member executive committee, including Ward Chairman Hon. Adebayo Ismail, Aduroja said the clarification was prompted by a statement from MJS Partners, Daniel’s law firm, following a November 17 letter from the APC National Secretariat.
He alleged that Daniel’s misconduct dated back to the last general elections, during which he reportedly acted against APC interests and attempted to obstruct proceedings at the Election Petition Tribunal, actions described as detrimental to the party and its candidates.
Responding to the NWC’s letter, Aduroja cited Article 21(5)(vii) of the party constitution, emphasizing that while the NWC can suspend members, ward and other executive committees retain independent disciplinary powers, which are only subject to appeal under Article 21(4). “No provision subjects the suspension to NWC oversight,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming Ward 4’s commitment to discipline and due process, insisting: “The suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel remains in full effect.”
