Plateau Government Urges Calm as Schools Close Amid Security Concerns

The Plateau State Government has called for calm following the temporary closure of schools across the state as a precautionary measure to protect students and staff amid rising security concerns in parts of the country.

In a directive issued on Friday, the State Ministry of Education and the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) ordered all Government Junior Model Secondary Schools to close from Saturday, November 22, 2025, while primary and day schools are to close from Monday, November 24.

The ministry instructed that no academic or administrative activities should take place until further notice. The announcement led to noticeable movement in the Jos/Bukuru metropolis on Saturday, with parents seen picking up their children from schools.

Authorities explained that the closure was prompted by reports of student kidnappings in other states. While urging citizens not to panic, the government emphasized that the measures are proactive steps to safeguard the wellbeing of students, teachers, and school personnel.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, called on parents, school administrators, and community leaders to adhere to the directives and avoid spreading unverified information. She reassured residents that Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration remains committed to maintaining peace and that the situation is under control.
