Hoodlums Attack Fuji Star Obesere, Injure Media Manager and Steal Cash Bag at Ondo Burial Ceremony

Fuji music icon Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere and members of his entourage were violently attacked on Friday, November 21, 2025, during a burial ceremony in Okitipupa, Ondo State.

The incident was detailed in a statement issued by Ayonla Obesere Althentic, the artiste’s media manager, who confirmed that the attack occurred shortly after Obesere finished his performance and the team was preparing to leave the venue.

According to Ayonla, several groups of hoodlums suddenly surrounded the area. One group targeted him specifically because he was holding a bag containing money.

“Despite attempting to exit peacefully, we were confronted aggressively. They demanded the bag of money. When I refused, they attacked me,” he said.

Ayonla reported sustaining serious injuries, including a dislocated shoulder and multiple blows, some inflicted with a knife.

“I was beaten, my shoulder was dislocated, and I was struck with a knife while trying to get into the car. I cannot confirm if it resulted in a stabbing, but I am in significant pain,” he stated.

He added that the attackers eventually overpowered him and escaped with the money, while another group continued rough-handling Obesere even after the musician attempted to calm the situation by giving out money.

Ayonla said he managed to get Obesere into their vehicle to ensure his safety and secure medical help.

“We strongly condemn this criminal and violent behaviour. Such attacks on performers, their teams, and mourners at a burial ceremony are unacceptable,” he said.

The media manager confirmed that the matter has been reported to the Okitipupa Police Division and urged authorities to swiftly investigate and bring the culprits to justice.

He also appealed to fans, event organisers, and the general public to avoid violence and respect the safety of artistes and mourners at events.

Ayonla expressed gratitude to those who assisted during the attack as well as local security and medical personnel. He noted that further updates would be provided when necessary.
