Peter Obi Blames Leadership Failures for Nigeria’s Persistent Insecurity

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticized Nigeria’s worsening security situation, attributing the country’s persistent instability to leadership failures rather than fate.

In a post on his verified X account late Sunday, Obi said Nigeria is “bleeding” because those elected to protect the nation have prioritized comfort over courage, politics over people, and power over purpose.

He highlighted that in just the past 10 days, the country has faced “unprecedented negative news, chaos, insecurity, and institutional decay,” stressing that each day presents a new tragedy and reinforces the absence of competent, compassionate, and responsible leadership.

Obi referenced the abduction of 13 female farmers in Askira-Uba, Borno State, by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists as a stark reminder of the security crisis.

“No serious nation survives on excuses, indifference, or absentee leadership. What we are witnessing is not inevitable; it is the direct consequence of leaders not valuing human life,” Obi tweeted.

He urged Nigerian leaders to act with competence and compassion, emphasizing that governance is a duty to protect every citizen. Obi concluded by expressing solidarity with victims of insecurity, stressing that Nigerians “deserve safety, peace, and a government that values our lives above politics.”
