The University of Ilorin (Unilorin) has officially launched activities to mark its 50th anniversary with a lively Anniversary Health Walk, attracting a large turnout of staff, students, alumni, and friends of the institution.
Flagging off the event at the university’s Main Gate on Monday, Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, lauded the university community for their overwhelming participation, describing it as a testament to their commitment to the growth and ideals of Unilorin.
In a statement, the university’s spokesperson, Kunle Akogun, said Prof. Egbewole highlighted that the golden jubilee celebration aims to showcase the university’s achievements over five decades and reaffirm its readiness for future innovations.
“The walk also symbolizes Unilorin’s strong bond with its host community and underscores the institution’s active role in the socio-economic development of Ilorin and Kwara State,” the VC said.
Prof. Egbewole also expressed gratitude to development partners and friends of the university worldwide, noting their support has been pivotal to the university’s growth and the success of the anniversary program.
The health walk will culminate with a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, a gesture the VC described as symbolic, acknowledging the Emirate’s significant role in the university’s evolution since its inception.
