DHL Express launches GoGreen campaign to cut emissions, boost sustainability

Global logistics leader DHL Express Limited has launched its GoGreen campaign, a comprehensive sustainability initiative aimed at drastically reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental protection.

The launch event, themed “Delivering a Sustainable Future,” was held in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

DHL Express Managing Director, Muyiwa Adeseyoju, said the company is committed to transitioning to greener fuel sources as part of its decarbonisation strategy, with a clear target to significantly cut gas emissions by 2030.

Adeseyoju noted that DHL prides itself on strong customer service, employee-friendly policies, and gender equality. He said the company aims to ensure women make up 50% of its workforce by 2030.

By the same year, DHL plans to eliminate fuel-dependent energy use across its facilities, transition all offices to solar power, and achieve carbon-dioxide-free operations. He highlighted the company’s new solar-powered offices in Lekki as an example of its progress.

He added that offsetting CO₂ emissions remains a key priority as DHL works to reduce its ecological footprint and support global climate protection efforts.

To drive the GoGreen agenda, DHL will invest in certified sustainability projects, expand its fleet of electric vehicles, and deploy more energy-efficient alternatives across its operations.

In his presentation, Senior Commercial Director Fafowora Olaniran raised concerns over ozone layer depletion, noting that CO₂ emissions remain a major contributing factor — including emissions from the logistics industry itself.

Olaniran emphasised that the GoGreen launch marks a major step in the company’s environmental commitment. He noted that customers increasingly make purchase decisions based on companies’ environmental impact, and regulatory bodies worldwide — including the Nigerian government — are demanding greater transparency on emissions.

According to him, DHL is ahead of many competitors in adopting sustainable practices.

He reiterated the company’s key goals, including:

  • Increasing the use of sustainable fuel across air, ocean, and road transport
  • Electrifying 70% of its last-mile delivery fleet by 2030
  • Constructing carbon-neutral buildings
  • Expanding the use of solar-powered infrastructure
  • Offering carbon-reduced products under the GoGreen programme

“Let’s embrace sustainability together to safeguard the future of our planet,” Olaniran urged.

He announced that customers who support the GoGreen initiative will receive globally recognised SGS-certified environmental certificates.
