The Edo State Government declared on Friday that over 200 vehicles are currently missing.
Kelly Okungbowa, chairman of the committee appointed by Governor Monday Okpebholo to recover government vehicles, made the announcement in Benin, the state capital. Speaking about the committee’s progress, Okungbowa revealed that within 24 hours of its formation, three vehicles—one Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses—had been recovered.
During the recovery, the committee found palliatives, including bags of garri and rice, inside one of the Toyota Hiace buses. These items were intended for distribution to the people of Edo.
Okungbowa called on the public to provide more information, noting that the tips received so far had played a crucial role in the recovery. He also reassured whistleblowers that they would receive substantial rewards for providing accurate and verifiable information.
“We were inaugurated yesterday and promised to follow the law in fulfilling the mandate of the Governor to recover all missing government vehicles. We are pleased to report that we have already made progress, recovering one Hilux and two Toyota Hiace buses,” Okungbowa said.
He emphasized that the vehicles belong to the people of Edo and urged former government officials and any other individuals holding onto government property to return them within 48 hours.
