Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Criticizes Trump’s Threats Against Democratic Lawmakers

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) sharply criticized former President Donald Trump for issuing death threats against Democratic lawmakers, raising serious concerns about his mental state and behavior.

“It’s not just shocking, it’s not just offensive. It’s bizarre, it is erratic, it’s volatile,” Ocasio-Cortez told reporters. “It indicates a mental state that we should all be questioning right now. … It is not normal to make these accusations. It is not normal to invoke these kinds of threats of violence.”

Context: Trump’s Threats Against Democrats

The remarks came after Trump publicly attacked six Congressional Democrats with military and intelligence backgrounds, who released a video urging U.S. service members to refuse illegal orders.

Trump labeled the video’s creators traitors, called for their punishment by death, and even amplified a social media post suggesting hanging. On Saturday, he called their actions “sedition at the highest level,” demanding that all involved be jailed.

Political and Legal Fallout

The threats have prompted concern among lawmakers and raised the possibility of federal action:

  • Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche indicated that the Department of Justice may investigate Trump’s statements.
  • Senators Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), featured in the controversial video, reported a surge in threats against themselves amid Trump’s rhetoric.

The situation has drawn widespread attention as it intersects with ongoing debates about legal authority, political accountability, and threats of violence in U.S. politics.

Ocasio-Cortez’s Statement

Ocasio-Cortez described the former president’s behavior as erratic and volatile, emphasizing that such threats are outside normal political conduct. She called for scrutiny of Trump’s mental state and urged the public and authorities to recognize the seriousness of issuing death threats against lawmakers.

“It is not normal to invoke these kinds of threats of violence,” she said, underscoring the unusual and alarming nature of Trump’s statements.
