Fubara to Present 2026 Budget in Reconstructed Rivers Assembly Complex

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has indicated plans to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to lawmakers in the newly reconstructed Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.

The governor made the announcement during an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction work being carried out by Monier Construction Company Limited (MCC). He was accompanied by Hon. Boniface Emerengwa, representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, and MCC management.

Governor Fubara expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the complex is expected to be ready by the end of December 2025. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring timely completion so that lawmakers can resume sittings in the chamber, where he plans to present the 2026 budget formally.

“We have been working hard to ensure their permanent sitting chamber is put in place. You know the drama that surrounded our relationship before, but by the grace of God, now that everything has been sorted out, it is our desire to ensure the Assembly members return to their normal place of sitting,” Fubara said.

The assembly complex was previously damaged in an alleged dynamite explosion on October 29, 2023, amid a political crisis involving former FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governor Fubara.

The governor noted that the reconstruction began before the declaration of emergency rule, and he expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s progress. He revealed that MCC had subcontracted interior and some external works to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to speed up completion and meet deadlines.

Fubara assured that once the main chamber is delivered, the remaining parts of the complex will be completed by the legislature after they resume sittings in the building.
