Sophie Nyweide, a former child actress known for her roles in Noah (2014) and Margot at the Wedding (2007), has tragically passed away at the age of 24. According to an obituary published by her family, Nyweide died on April 14, 2025. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Nyweide’s family shared that despite the efforts of loved ones, therapists, and law enforcement to help her, she was ultimately unable to overcome the personal struggles she faced. They described her as a “kind and trusting girl,” who, despite her many talents, was often vulnerable to exploitation. Sophie was an avid writer and artist, using her work to process the trauma she experienced throughout her life. Her family revealed that she “self-medicated to deal with all the trauma and shame she held inside,” which ultimately led to her death.

Nyweide’s career began at a young age, with her debut performance as the title character in the 2006 film Bella. Over the next decade, she appeared in several films and television series, including Mammoth (2009), where she played the daughter of Michelle Williams and Gael García Bernal. In 2014, she starred alongside Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly in Noah, a biblical epic directed by Darren Aronofsky. Her last screen appearance was in a 2015 episode of What Would You Do?, a reality series that placed people in ethical dilemmas to observe their reactions.

Throughout her career, Nyweide was known for her creativity, athleticism, and maturity beyond her years. Her family fondly remembered her for her passion for acting, describing her as someone who “demanded” to become an actor, unaware that her mother had also been in the industry. As part of her family’s tribute, they asked mourners to donate to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the U.S., in lieu of flowers or gifts.
